TESTS FOR ENGINEERING

AIEEE

All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE) is conducted by Central Board of Secondary Education for admission to undergraduate programs in engineering, architecture and planning offered by various institution across India namely National Institutes of Technology (NITs), deemed universities, Institutes of Technology and other government funded institutions. A centralized counseling is held after the test to fill up the All India seats.

Application procedure:

Application can either be made online or offline through post.

Offline Registration:

The candidates can avail the Information Bulletin containing the Application form from regional offices of CBSE/Designated branches of Syndicate Bank/ other Banks/Designated Institutions on cash payment of 300 INR for General Category candidates and 150 INR for SC/ST candidates.

Or

The candidates can request for the Information Bulletin by post by sending their request to the Assistant Secretary (AIEEE), CBSE, PS 1-2, Institutional Area, IP Extension, Patparganj, New Delhi - 110092 along with a demand draft of 350 INR (150 ONR for SC/ST candidates) in favor of ‘The Secretary, CBSE’ payable at Delhi and a self-addressed envelope of size 12" * 10".

After completion of the form as per the guidelines provided the candidates are required to mail it to the Assistant Secretary (AIEEE), CBSE, PS 1-2, Institutional Area, IP Extension, Patparganj, New Delhi – 110092 by speed/registered post and make sure that it reaches before the deadline.

Online Registration:

The candidates are required to log on to www.aieee.nic.in and fill in the application form as per the guidelines provided, submit the data, take out a print out of the form, affix a recent passport size photograph and mail it by registered/speed post to the Assistant Secretary (AIEEE), CBSE, PS 1-2, Institutional Area, IP Extension, Patparganj, New Delhi - 110092 along with a demand draft of 350 INR (150 ONR for SC/ST candidates) in favor of ‘The Secretary, CBSE’ payable at Delhi by the deadline.

Eligibility criteria:


The candidate must have passed or must be appearing for any of the following examinations:

  1. The +2 level examination in the 10+2 pattern of examination of any recognized Central/State Board of Secondary Examination, such as Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi, and Council for Indian School Certificate Examination, New Delhi 
  2. Intermediate or two-year Pre-University Examination conducted by recognized Board/University 
  3. Final Examination of the two-year course of the Joint Services Wing of the National Defense Academy
  4. Any Public School/Board/University Examination in India or in foreign countries recognized by the Association of Indian Universities as equivalent to 10+2 system

v) H.S.C. Vocational Examination

  1. A pass grade in the Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Open School with a minimum of five subjects
  2. 3 or 4-year diploma recognized by AICTE or a State Board of Technical Education

Points to remember:

  • The candidates can opt for question papers either in English or Hindi.
  • Or applying to B Arch/B Planning programs the candidate must have secured at least 50% in Mathematics at 10+2 level
  • The number of attempts that a candidate can avail is three
  • Only Indian National are eligible
  • The candidates must meet the age criteria mentioned in the Information bulletin of the respective year

Final selection:

The list of candidates who qualify AIEEE is published in leading newspapers and on the website of AIEEE by Central Counseling Board (CCB) along with their ranks. The candidates are then required to undergo the following procedure for counseling and admission:

Phase I – Off Campus Online Counseling

The candidates are required to give their first choice online at and can exercise their choices from anywhere over Internet. They receive an indicative allotment to make the candidates aware of the possibility of getting the desired college.

Phase II – Off Campus Online Counseling

The candidates are required to report at the designated counseling centre received by them in Phase I where they have to get all their original documents verified, pay the initial deposit of 15000 INR for OP and 5000 INR for SC/ST candidates by a demand draft in favor of Central Counseling Board payable at Allahabad and fill their final choices of seats online and lock their choices.

On the basis of choices submitted in Phase II, the seat allotment is centrally processed by CCB and the allotment letters are given to the candidates


IIT-JEE

Indian Institutes of Technology conduct a joint entrance examination every year for admission to their prestigious Bachelor of Technology program in multifarious disciplines offered at their Mumbai, Kanpur, Delhi, Kharagpur, Chennai, Guwahati, and Roorkee campuses. The Indian School of Mines University, Dhanbad and IT-BHU, Varanasi also accept the results for admission to its courses.

Test Pattern:

The Test comprises of two papers, each having three separate sections on physics chemistry and mathematics. The time duration for each paper is 3 hours. Both papers comprise of objective type questions designed to test comprehension, reasoning and analytical abilities of the candidate.

  • Candidates can opt for Question Papers either in English or in Hindi
  • Use of calculators and Log tables is prohibited
  • Answers need to be marked on Optical Response Sheet (ORS) using HB pencils
  • Incorrect answers are awarded negative marks
  • Only those candidates who attempt both Paper 1 and Paper 2 are considered for the ranking


Scoring:

Marks are awarded for Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics based on the performance in both the papers 1 and 2.Based on the cut-offs in the individual subjects as well as the aggregate marks in the examination a common merit list is prepared. In addition, separate merit lists are prepared for candidates belonging to scheduled castes, scheduled tribes and physically disabled candidates in accordance with the respective relaxed norms. There is no separate list of relaxed candidates.

Eligibility Criteria:

The candidate appearing for the test must have passed (with 60% for General Candidates, 55% for SC/ST/PD) or must be appearing for any of the following qualifying examinations:

  • The final examination of the 10+2 system, conducted by any recognized Central/State Board
  • Intermediate or two-year Pre-University Examination conducted by a recognized Board or University
  • Final Examination of the two-year course of the Joint Services Wing of the National Defense Academy
  • General Certificate Education (GCE) Examination (London/Cambridge/Sri Lanka) at the Advanced (A) level
  • High School Certificate Examination of the Cambridge University
  • Any Public School/Board/University Examination in India or in foreign countries recognized by the Association of Indian Universities as equivalent to 10+2 system
  • H.S.C Vocational Examination
  • Senior Secondary Schools Examination conducted by the National Open school with a minimum of five subjects
  • 3 or 4 year Diploma recognized by AICTE or State Board of Technical Education

Additional Criteria:

  • All qualifying candidates are required to submit a Physical fitness certificate from a Registered Medical Practitioner in the prescribed format
  • Candidates must meet the age requirements
  • Candidates should not have accepted admission by paying full fees at any of the IITs, IT-BHU, Varanasi and ISMU, Dhanbad
  • A candidate can attempt JEE only twice, in consecutive years

Application procedure:

Candidates have a choice of registering for the examination either online or offline.

Offline Registration:

Candidates can purchase the IIT JEE application form and information brochure from any one of the designated branches of banks by paying 500 INR in case of SC/ST and female candidates and 1000 INR for all other candidates or obtain the same by post by sending a demand draft in favor of "Chairman JEE" and two self addressed slips to any of the IITs. They are required to fill the application form in accordance with the guidelines provided, attach the attested copies of relevant qualifying examination certificates and marks sheets, proof of date of birth and send them by registered post or speed post to the IIT located in the zone where the candidate wishes to appear for the examination. The application must reach the concerned IIT by the stated deadline.

Online Registration:

The candidate is required to complete the online application form available at http://jee.iitd.ac.in or http://jee.iitb.ac.in or http://www.iitg.ac.in/jee or http://www.jee.iitk.ac.in as per the guidelines provided. After the particulars are submitted a print version of the application form is generated, the candidate is required to take a print out of the application, affix a passport size photograph, put his signatures, attach copies of relevant qualifying examination certificates and marks sheets, proof of date of birth and send them by registered post or speed post to the IIT located in the zone where the candidate wishes to appear for the examination along with a Demand Draft of 500 INR in case of SC/ST and female candidates and 1000 INR for all other candidates in favor of "Chairman JEE ". The application must reach the concerned IIT by the stated deadline.


BITSAT

BITSAT is a computer based online admission test conducted by Birla Institute of Technology and Science for admission to its integrated first-degree programs offered at its Goa, Pilani and Hyderabad campuses.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • For admission to all Integrated First Degree Programs except B.Pharm (Hons) candidates should have passed 10+2 system from a recognized Central or State Board or its equivalent with a minimum of aggregate 80% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics with at least 60% marks individually in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics and adequate proficiency in English

  • For admission to B.Pharm (Hons) candidates should have passed 10+2 system from a recognized Central or State Board or its equivalent with a minimum of aggregate 80% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology with at least 60% marks individually in Physics, Chemistry and Biology and adequate proficiency in English
  • Candidates who are appearing for the 10+2 system qualifying examination or have passed the 10+2 qualifying examination in the year prior to the year of BITSAT are only eligible to apply

    Test Pattern:

    BITSAT is an objective type test comprising of 150 questions with each question carrying for options. For every correct answer the candidate scores 3 marks whereas every incorrect answer leads to a negative marking of 1 mark. The total allotted time is 3 hours. There is no time limit for individual parts/sections.

    If a candidate answers all the 150 questions without skipping any question and provided time is left, he/she will have an option to answer 12 extra questions, 4 each from Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics/Biology. This helps meritorious students to score higher, however, the candidates must keep in mind negative marking for incorrect answers.

    Score reporting:

    After the completion of the test, the computer displays the results in terms of the number of correct answers and wrong answers, with the final score. The score report is also available online at www.bitsadmission.com . No student is allowed to repeat the test in the same year.

    Test centers:

    The test is conducted at more than 15 centers across India to provide accessibility to a large number of students. The planned test centers are in Goa, Pilani, Lucknow, Ahemedabad, Bangalore, Bhubaneshwar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Coimbatore, Delhi, Gurgaon, Hyderabad, Indore, Kolkatta, Mumbai, Madurai, Nagpur, Visakhapatnam, Noida and Vijaywada.

    Application procedure:

    BITSAT is generally conducted in the month of May or June and the deadlines for application fall in January. Candidates can apply for BITSAT either online or offline.

    Online Registration:

    The candidates must fill the application form available at http://bitsadmission.com/BITSAT as per the guidelines provided, take a print out of the filled form and send it along with a demand draft of 1000 INR in case of male candidates and 500 INR for female candidates in favor of ‘Birla Institute of Technology and Science’ payable at State Bank of India, Zuari Nagar, Goa or State Bank of Bikaner & Jaipur, Pilani or UCO Bank, Vidya Vihar, Pilani to The Admissions Officer, BITS, Pilani – 333031, Rajasthan by registered post or speed post. The completed form must reach the Admissions Officer by the deadline.

    Offline Registration:

    The candidates can obtain the application form by sending a request on plain paper mentioning the candidate’s name, gender and complete postal address accompanied by a demand draft of 1100 INR in case of male candidates and 600 INR for female candidates in favor of ‘Birla Institute of Technology and Science’ payable at State Bank of India, Zuari Nagar, Goa or State Bank of Bikaner & Jaipur, Pilani or UCO Bank, Vidya Vihar, Pilani to The Admissions Officer, BITS, Pilani – 333031, Rajasthan. The candidate shall receive the application form by speed post or registered post.

    In addition to applying for BITSAT, the candidates need to apply for admission to BITS by filling in the appropriate admission form available on BITS website and giving their academic details and preference for the different degree programs offered. The candidate needs to take a print out of filled admission form and mail it to The Admissions Officer, Bits, Pilani – 333031, Rajasthan.


    GATE

    Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is a national level examination conducted by the seven IITs and IISc Bangalore for admission to their post graduate programs in engineering.

    Test Pattern:

    GATE comprises of a single paper of 2 hours duration carrying 150 marks containing objective type questions. The candidate has to choose the question paper relevant to the specialized branch of engineering which he/she wishes to opt for postgraduate studies. The list of papers is as follows:

    Candidates who possess a BE, B Tech, M Sc or MCA degree are eligible to apply for GATE.
